The Dust Bowl of 1930 left the wheat fields of the Dakotas to Texas completely covered with dust. The air was so thick with dust humans and animals caught outdoors sometimes died ot suffocation when the dust filled their lungs. The farms left the farmers no chance. They soon up and left to California.
